It’s all hands on deck now for the Monetary Board (MB).

Finance Secretary Frederick “Deck” Go is now officially part of the seven-member MB as the government’s Cabinet representative, bringing his fiscal chops straight into the heart of the central bank’s policymaking.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Eli Remolona Jr. on Thursday administered his oath at the central bank’s headquarters in Manila.

He finally fills the spot left by his predecessor, now Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, at a crucial time when the fiscal stability of the country is shaken by corruption scandals. After all, his entry into the finance chief role came in the wake of a cabinet revamp addressing the controversy.

Go brings extra experience to the role, having previously served as Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs, placing him at the core of the Marcos administration’s efforts to bolster economic and investment policies.

“I will pursue the strategic alignment of fiscal and monetary policies in support of the Board’s mandate to maintain price stability and safeguard our financial system,” Go said.

With Go now on board, all eyes are on how his commitment to fiscal discipline will help keep the Philippine economy resilient, robust and inclusive.
