BIZ BUZZ: Guess who came to town last week?

Amy Remo

No less than Uruguayan “starchitect” Carlos Ott was spotted doing the rounds in the South to help Rockwell Land study the market, understand the area, and revisit the master plan for the 17.5-hectare Alabang Town Center (ATC), whose controlling stake the developer acquired last year.

Property watchers will remember that Ott previously worked his design magic on The Proscenium, a mixed-use urban enclave comprising five residential towers, expansive shared amenities, curated retail outlets, and a performing arts theater.

At the launch, it was boldly dubbed Rockwell’s “greatest yet,” a lofty claim to which it strives to live up to.

But this time around, the mission isn’t to wipe the slate clean. Far from it. Sources said the plan was to reimagine—not erase—what generations of Southies fondly call ATC.

Ott himself reportedly wants to observe firsthand the mall’s vibrancy and understand its history so they “don’t bulldoze the memory of ATC.”

From what we’re picking up, plans point to more breathing space, smoother flow and a more intuitive lifestyle destination, designed to complement surrounding neighborhoods.

And apparently, there’s no rush to change ATC’s name, too.

No wonder buzz is building over what could be Rockwell’s next headline-grabbing community, a prospect that’s already getting longtime patrons and nearby residents talking.

And while details remain under wraps, that also hasn’t stopped keen watchers from quietly positioning themselves for what many believe could be the South’s next big address.
