BIZ BUZZ: Loco over coco

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the People’s Television Network are cooking up a plan to help revitalize the local coconut industry.
The PCA recently announced its partnership with the state-run television network to launch Lutong Pinoy with PCA, a cooking segment featuring various coconut-based ingredients.
This will showcase traditional and innovative Filipino dishes using more than 50 coconut-based ingredients such as coconut milk, cream, oil and flour.
It “aims to integrate the coconut’s role in Filipino cuisine and culture into the national consciousness, supporting greater demand for local coconut products,” the PCA said in a Facebook post.
“The program targets households and food entrepreneurs, aiming to spur demand for local coconut products. Episodes will also feature farmer stories, reinforcing the connection between consumers and agricultural communities,” it added.
The seven- to 10-minute cooking segment will be aired on PTV’s Rise & Shine Pilipinas every Friday morning, with the first five episodes to be aired between July 18 and Aug. 15.
“Every spoonful of coconut carries the labor of millions of farmers. When we invest in niyog, we invest in the nation,” PCA Administrator Dexter Buted said.
Here’s hoping the new segment brings the government closer to its long-term goal of bolstering the coconut sector.
