BIZ BUZZ: No Guinness record for now
The Philippines made history in 2024 after bagging a Guinness World Records title for showcasing the most number of unique pork dishes in a single event.
More than two years later, the Philippines still has no appetite to top its own record, and no country has tried to break it either.
“We might not try to break it for now because no country has attempted to break our record,” National Federation of Hog Farmers Inc. (NatFed) chair and president Chester Warren Tan said.
“But right now, we are focusing on how to increase local production, encouraging all farmers to produce more. That’s where our focus is, more on local production,” he told reporters.
In March 2024, NatFed bagged the Guinness World Records title for displaying 313 different kinds of pork dishes during a hog festival in Quezon City.
“The event was created to help the Filipino pork industry which has been hit hard by the African Swine Flu,” according to Guinness World Records’ website.
For now, the local industry faces a bigger concern: ramping up hog output amid the continued prevalence of African swine fever (ASF) in parts of the country.
