BIZ BUZZ: Palace broom sweeps

Tina Arceo-Dumlao

Barely has the applause from President Marcos’ latest State of the Nation Address (Sona) died down, and already the Palace broom is reportedly being readied for another sweep.

BizBuzz sources say several key officials across the bureaucracy are being eyed for replacement as Malacañang moves to hasten reforms promised during the last Sona.

But in one front-line agency tasked with dragging government services into the modern age, the housecleaning may have begun even before the cleaners arrived.

Word on the street is at least four ranking officials of this office have tendered their resignations, effectively giving the Palace a free hand to choose their successors.

Their exits come amid whispers of bitter internal divisions that have made their already difficult job even messier. Turf wars, intrigue and competing camps have reportedly taken a heavy toll.

Will fresh faces finally steady the ship?

Possible. But insiders warn that changing the crew may not be enough to make a difference, as some seasoned hands still aboard appear unusually talented at stirring the waters.
