BIZ BUZZ: PH-US ties, served fresh

Emmanuel John Abris

Gaisano-led grocery retailer Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) is going all-in on American flavors—this time with a diplomatic twist.

The retailer teamed up with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the US Embassy to launch the “Great American Food Fest,” marking 80 years of Philippines–US ties.

Held at Metro Supermarket in Market! Market!, the event kicked off with a ceremonial bell ringing led by company executives and visiting US officials.

The two-week promo, running until April 26, showcases a curated lineup of US-origin food and beverage products, bundled with in-store deals.

The tie-up forms part of the USDA’s agribusiness trade mission under the “Galing USA” banner, aimed at boosting American agricultural exports.

For MRSGI, it’s another push to keep shelves interesting—leveraging global partnerships while giving Filipino shoppers a taste of imported fare.
