BIZ BUZZ: Pinoys’ EV push goes digital
If there is another metric that could measure Filipinos’ growing appetite for electric vehicles (EVs), it may well be the demand for places to charge them.
While the Philippines’ charging network still has plenty of catching up to do, the ecosystem being built around it is quickly gaining traction, thanks in large part to ACMobility, which accounts for about 45 percent of public charging points nationwide.
Now, the Ayala Corp. subsidiary’s charging push is gaining traction in the digital space as well, with its official partner app, Evro, breaching 100,000 users.
Open to all EV brands, Evro lets motorists find charging stations, check their availability and pay for charging sessions through a single app. Think of it as a digital map and wallet for the country’s growing number of EV drivers.
Evro said its station finder now covers more than 430 charging hubs registered with the Department of Energy, including those operated by ACMobility, Shell Recharge and Gigawatt Power Inc.
The platform has also powered more than 100 types of EVs across multiple brands. Charging sessions made through the app have helped avoid an estimated 2,339 tons of carbon emissions, Evro said.
“More than just a number, it tells us that Evro has become a meaningful part of the everyday EV journey of thousands of Filipinos,” said Evro chief operating officer Patrick Dela Cruz.
It appears, then, that car dealers aren’t the only ones benefiting from the EV boom. As more EVs hit Philippine roads, the businesses building the ecosystem around them are finding plenty of room to grow, too.
