BIZ BUZZ: Schools harness renewable energy

Clean electricity is powering more classrooms, with San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) as the latest school to tap Ayala-led ACEN Corp. for its renewable shift.

The renewable energy producer, through its retail electricity supply unit, said that it had clinched a supply deal with SBCA.

ACEN said the supply would be sourced from its solar, wind and geothermal power plants.

The agreement would allow SBCA to switch its entire Alabang campus to 100 percent clean power. This also translates to a reduction of more than 2,000 tons of carbon emissions per year, comparable to the annual carbon absorption of around 100,000 trees.

Aside from environmental benefits, the transition will lead to about P8 million in energy savings.

“By powering our campus with 100-percent renewable energy, we are showing our students that sustainability and excellence go hand-in-hand,” SBCA rector Rev. Fr. Gerardo De Villa said.

Early last year, ACEN also bagged an agreement to power the five facilities in all three campuses of the Philippine Cultural College.
