BIZ BUZZ: Security Bank hits the trifecta

Emmanuel John Abris

Security Bank’s digital push is racking up more than just clicks.

The Frederick Dy-led bank and its investment banking arm, Security Bank Capital, bagged three recognitions at the Asian Banking & Finance Awards 2026 for their digital banking initiatives and work on one of the country’s biggest project finance deals.

Security Bank’s mobile banking initiative was named Mobile Banking & Payment Initiative of the Year–Philippines.

Its app lets customers open accounts in real time through electronic know-your-customer, biometric verification and instant identity validation.

More than 23,000 new-to-bank customers have opened accounts digitally since the feature was launched.

Existing clients can also open additional accounts and access installment conversion, balance transfers and credit-to-cash facilities through the app.

Its corporate banking business has also found traction online.

Security Bank’s QRPay via API, which lets companies integrate QR payments directly into their systems, saw transaction count surge 284 percent from 2024 to 2025.

Transaction volume climbed 187 percent over the same period.

But perhaps the biggest flex came from Security Bank Capital.

The investment banking arm won Syndicated Loan of the Year–Philippines for arranging a P150-billion, 15-year senior term loan for Terra Solar Philippines Inc.

The financing supports what was considered the world’s largest integrated solar and battery storage project as of 2025.

Not a bad haul for a bank trying to prove that “BetterBanking” can also mean bigger digital numbers—and bigger deals.
