BIZ BUZZ: Sonny side up at Megaworld

Property tycoon Andrew Tan is adding some heavyweight economic expertise to Megaworld Corp.’s boardroom.

Former finance secretary Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez III has joined the property giant’s board as lead independent director, bringing more than four decades of experience spanning government, finance and corporate leadership.

Dominguez is no stranger to either side of the public-private divide.

He served as finance secretary from 2016 to 2022 and, much earlier, held the agriculture and environment portfolios.

His corporate resume is just as lengthy, with previous leadership posts at Philippine Airlines, Philippine Associated Smelting and Refining Corp., BPI Agricultural Development Bank and RCBC Capital Corp.

“His depth of experience and strategic perspective will be invaluable as the company enters its next chapter of growth,” Tan said.

And there should be plenty to weigh in on. Megaworld continues to expand its footprint across major economic and tourism destinations through its integrated urban townships.
