BIZ BUZZ: Suite surprise: Taal Vista gets an upgrade

SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. of the Sy group is giving its first love a major upgrade.

We’re talking about the iconic 85-year-old Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City, which is set to launch its Presidential Villa in February 2026.

The 600-square-meter (sq m) Presidential Villa will be located on the 4th floor of the hotel’s Mountain Wing.

Once completed, it will have its own private lift, a 302-sqm balcony/deck for intimate gatherings, a 75-sq m master suite, 34-sq m formal dining area, 37-sq m living area and 19-sq m foyer.

The SM unit said that with sweeping panoramic views of the iconic Taal Lake and Volcano, this exclusive suite is designed for guests who seek refined comfort and elegance.

The goal is to “redefine luxury” in Tagaytay, a popular retreat for weekenders that once included the late retail tycoon Henry Sy Sr.

He had a favorite spot on the grounds of Taal Vista that had undergone changes of ownership and renovations before it was acquired by SM Investments Corp. in 1988.

The group has earmarked some P130 million to complete the upgrade that will also include the renovation of two premium function rooms and the spa. Abangan!
