BIZ BUZZ: Transparency pays

Ian Nicolas P. Cigaral

The Philippines is back on top.

The country ranked first among 57 economies in the Institute of International Finance’s 2026 Investor Relations and Debt Transparency Report, reclaiming the No. 1 spot after slipping to second place last year.

For Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli Remolona Jr., the recognition is more than just another international accolade.

“The BSP welcomes this recognition as it affirms the government’s collective efforts to promote transparency and accountability,” Remolona said, adding that such efforts help bolster investor confidence and strengthen the country’s credibility in global financial markets.

Behind the recognition is the BSP’s Investor Relations Group, whose program dates back to 2001, making it one of the world’s earliest sovereign investor relations initiatives.

In global markets, where confidence can be as valuable as capital, Remolona’s message is clear: transparency remains one of the country’s strongest selling points.
