BIZ BUZZ: Ayala harvests top awards

These days, companies aren’t just in it for the glitz and glamor of being the most profitable out there.
Time and again, we’ve learned that investors are not simply after the returns, but also whether the business has sustainable practices.
Such is the case for Ayala Corp., which was recently recognized as one of the Top 50 publicly listed companies in Southeast Asia and among the Top 5 in the Philippines for excellence in corporate governance.
The awards—given by the Asean Corporate Governance Conference and Awards—recognized the country’s oldest conglomerate for “world-class corporate governance practices,” making it among the world’s best in business transparency and accountability, board effectiveness, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.
“A strong governance ethic is key to maintaining investor interest and confidence. We are truly honored to be granted this distinction, which inspires us to continue with our efforts to do business with integrity, transparency and accountability for the benefit of all our stakeholders,” said Ayala chief legal officer and corporate governance group head Franchette Acosta.
Ayala-led telecommunications giant Globe Telecom Inc. was also included on the lists. Meanwhile. ACEN Corp., AREIT Inc., Ayala Land Inc., AyalaLand Logistics Holdings Corp. and Bank of the Philippine Islands were among the 35 Philippine firms named Asean Asset Class companies.
Now we know what else makes these firms shine in investors’ eyes. Congratulations!
