BIZ BUZZ: BSP names new counsel

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has named Roberto Figueroa as its new general counsel.

Biz Buzz first picked up on his appointment back in January.

Figueroa, who previously served as general counsel of British banking giant HSBC, takes over from Elmore Capule, who was promoted late last year to deputy governor for the BSP’s corporate services sector.

In his new role, Figueroa will serve as the BSP’s top legal adviser, providing guidance on legal matters related to central banking operations, including the institution’s supervisory and regulatory responsibilities. He will also lead the BSP’s legislative initiatives and represent the central bank in legal proceedings.
