BIZ BUZZ: DA offers internship
Young Filipinos seeking hands-on experience might want to check out the internship program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) this summer.
The DA has unveiled its 2026 Summer Youth Internship Program, providing an opportunity for young people between 18 and 25 to work regular government hours and earn daily wages based on prevailing regional minimum rates.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the internship program is an investment in character as much as career.
“When you start working young, you learn more than technical skills. You learn discipline, accountability and respect for hard work,” Tiu Laurel said. “Those early experiences shape how you face challenges later in life.”
“It builds confidence. It helps them understand responsibility. And for some, it may even open the door to a future in public service,” the agriculture chief added.
The internship program will run from April 24 to June 30, with placements at the DA central office, regional field offices, bureaus, attached agencies and corporations.
Applicants must be in good health and not related to any DA official or employee in their assigned office. It is open to students, high school graduates or college-level youth, as well as out-of-school youth who have not stopped schooling for more than two years.
Who knows? This could be the stepping stone to bigger opportunities. After all, Tiu Laurel himself began working at his family’s fishing business at 19.
