BIZ BUZZ: DTI tips hat to D&L

While the government’s export targets are retreating amid weak global demand, the Lao family’s P10-billion Batangas facility is advancing its foothold.

More than two years since launching commercial operations, D&L Industries isn’t just earning well from its new manufacturing plant.

Thanks to the added capacity for its food ingredients business, the facility is giving a much-needed kick to Philippines exports’ global presence, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The agency recognized the group’s wholly owned subsidiary, D&L Premium Food Corp. (DLPF), the operator of the Batangas plant, with the Market Diversification Award.

The award is given to companies that have successfully entered new international markets.

“Expanding the global reach of Philippine-made, high-value food products has long been a strategic priority for us,” said Vincent Lao, president and CEO of DLPF.

“This award reinforces our commitment to help broaden the country’s export base and promote Philippine innovation on the world stage,” the official added.

Lao said D&L hoped to book at least 50 percent of its sales from exports in the next few years.
