BIZ BUZZ: Hello, Meta
One of the country’s biggest gambling companies looks to Silicon Valley for ideas at a rather tricky time for the e-gaming business.
DigiPlus Interactive Corp., the company behind gambling sites BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone, recently sent CEO Tommy Hu to “Meta Connect 2026” in Menlo Park, California, where the Facebook parent showed off its latest innovations in artificial intelligence, wearables and digital technologies.
DigiPlus also paid a visit to Meta headquarters to learn more about the tech giant’s gaming and real-money gaming plans, along with other digital products and business tools.
Hu said the engagement gave DigiPlus a closer look at emerging technologies and best practices that could help shape the company’s next moves.
The timing, of course, makes the trip all the more interesting, with DigiPlus navigating a rougher regulatory road at home, where tighter rules have forced e-wallets to sever links to online gambling platforms.
DigiPlus said the restriction, together with softer consumer sentiment, contributed to the 33-percent year-on-year drop in its first-quarter profit.
Its shares have since taken a beating, falling to around P8 apiece by early October from levels above P20 after the e-wallet restrictions took effect in August 2025.
Fortune has not been entirely kinder abroad either. DigiPlus’ expansion bet in Brazil has hit a snag after President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva ordered a ban on online betting.
No announcements yet on what, if anything, might have come out of the company’s Silicon Valley visit. But with regulatory pressure mounting at home and overseas, the market will surely be watching closely to see what tricks DigiPlus has up its sleeve.
