Press Release

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has released a book examining major financial crises that affected the Philippine financial system from the 1980s to the 2020s, highlighting lessons from these events.

Titled “Risk and Resilience in the Philippine Financial System: How Much Has Changed,” the book will be launched on 03 July 2026 at the BSP Head Office in Manila during the central bank’s 33rd anniversary celebration.

The publication chronicles key episodes, including La Década Perdida (the Lost Decade) of the 1980s, the Dewey Dee default in 1981, the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997–1998, the Global Financial Crisis in 2007–2009, and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020–2023.

The book provides insights for policymakers, regulators, financial sector practitioners, academics, and students seeking a deeper understanding of the country’s financial stability journey.
