Campi positive on hitting 500K unit sales this year
The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (Campi) remains optimistic it can reach 500,000 vehicle sales this year, despite being more than 20 percent short of the target with just two months remaining.
“We are on target. I cannot confirm yet if 500,000 (units sold), but it’s possible if we get all the figures by the end of December,” Campi president Rommel Gutierrez told reporters on Friday, during the launch of the chamber’s 30th anniversary coffee table book.
Campi data show that sales reached 383,424 units from January to October, slightly lower than the 384,310 units sold in the same period last year.
The chamber, which has 28 auto brands under it, also aimed for 500,000 units in 2024 but fell short, despite ending the year with a record 467,252 units sold. Vehicle sales in the last two months of that year totaled 40,898 units in November and 42,044 units in December.
Gutierrez said the chamber remains confident about its 2025 target, which he said was still an “aspirational thing.”
Outlook for 2026
As for the automotive industry, Gutierrez said political controversies have yet to significantly affect demand.
“We don’t feel that much impact from political (issues),” he said when asked whether the sector had seen car demand dwindle following recent corruption scandals.
While Campi has yet to announce a formal target for 2026, Gutierrez expressed optimism that sales would improve in 2026.
“I’m sure it will be better than this year,” he said.
