DigiPlus seeks Cape Town nod for South Africa debut

DigiPlus Interactive Corp. is moving closer toward operating in South Africa, its second international market after Brazil. This follows its application for an online gaming license in what it sees as one of the “most dynamic” economies on the continent.

In a regulatory filing on Wednesday, the company behind BingoPlus, ArenaPlus and GameZone said it had filed applications for three operator licenses in South Africa via the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. These are national manufacturer, bookmaker and bookmaker premises licenses.

“The filing of our online gaming license in South Africa marks another milestone in DigiPlus’ global growth journey, as we bring our proven track record of innovation, responsible gaming and player protection, together with our strength in localizing games for diverse markets, to one of Africa’s most dynamic economies,” DigiPlus chair Eusebio Tanco said in a statement.

This comes after DigiPlus officially launched its Brazil operations last Sept. 22 through GamePlus, its first international brand.

GamePlus will feature over 150 of Brazil’s top games, both free-to-play and real-money versions, according to DigiPlus. The company will likewise add exclusive content inspired by local folklore, casual games and sports to ensure a “culturally resonant experience.”

Fastest-growing

Touted as South America’s fastest-growing online gaming market, Brazil generated $3.2 billion in gross gaming revenues in the first semester of the year.

“Our teams have worked diligently to create a platform that is not only robust and secure but also culturally resonant,” Tanco said in an earlier statement. “We are committed to fostering a strong local talent base and ensuring our offerings are perfectly tailored for Brazilian players, from our exclusive games to our player protection measures.”

DigiPlus’ aggressive international expansion comes amid mounting scrutiny over online gambling platforms in the Philippines, with lawmakers proposing tighter regulations on the rapidly evolving industry.
