DMCI Power budgets P2.4B for off-grid expansion

Lisbet K. Esmael

DMCI Power Corp., an off-grid power generator, is beefing up its capital spending this year with at least P2.4 billion amid its asset expansion.

In a disclosure to the local bourse on Monday, the company said the investment would cover the deployment of new hybrid, renewable and conventional facilities to support rising demand in off-grid areas.

The capital expenditure (capex) budget for 2026 is higher than last year’s P1.4 billion, Antonino Gatdula, Jr., DMCI Power president, told reporters.

He said the amount could even go bigger once DMCI Power secures regulatory approvals for its planned projects with a combined capacity of 45 megawatts (MW).

The bulk of the capex will finance expansion of its 15-MW coal-fired power plant in Palawan, with another facility eyed to have 15 MW of additional capacity.

“Currently, we’re in the process of securing the ECC (environmental compliance certificate). So we’re targeting that by the first quarter, latest or early second quarter, we’ll get the ECC. And then after that, we can commence with the construction,” he said.

The group is also preparing for the construction of a 17-MW bunker-fired thermal plant in Occidental Mindoro, after it secured victory in a power supply bidding.

It likewise submitted an unsolicited proposal to develop a 1-MW diesel plant in Antique.

A 4-MW solar farm in Masbate and another 8-MW bunker in the municipality of Roxas in Palawan are also in the pipeline.
