DTI aims to enhance architectural education

The Department of Trade and Industry has partnered with a network of schools to enhance architectural education by incorporating real-world construction practices into the curriculum.

The DTI announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Philippine Architecture Schools Association Inc. on March 20 to include industry construction standards.

The deal includes integrating Document 102, the Uniform General Conditions of Contract for Private Construction, into contract-related courses.

Issued by the Construction Industry Authority of the Philippines (CIAP), a DTI-attached agency, the document provides essential guidelines on industry standards.

The DTI said the inclusion of this document enhances students’ understanding of contract regulations and real-world construction practices.

“It highlights the importance of having a clear understanding of contractual rights, obligations and industry standards, which are essential elements in project supervision, monitoring and management within the construction industry,” the DTI said in a statement on Tuesday.

“This initiative underscores the shared goal of both organizations to equip architecture students with the professional skills and knowledge necessary for success,” added the government agency.

A key component is to provide technical training on construction contracts and CIAP Document 102 to faculty members, instructors and professors of architecture and engineering. a
