DTI grabs P9M worth of unvetted products
Authorities have seized P9.3 million worth of uncertified products in Bulacan, most of which are household appliances, continuing the government’s crackdown on products of questionable quality being sold in local markets.
In a statement on Saturday, the DTI said that their Task Force Kalasag conducted an operation on July 3 with the office of Erwin Tulfo, partly list representative of the Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support group.
The Business Permit and Licensing Office of the Municipality of Plaridel was also a partner in the operation.
Government agents raided a warehouse in Plaridel, with the operation yielding 656 units of uncertified helmets and visors, electric rice cookers, self-ballasted light-emitting diode lamps, extension cord sets and electric food mixers.
Another warehouse was also raided where authorities confiscated 8,772 units of noncompliant electric rice cookers, induction cookers, electric ovens, electric blenders, washing machines, electric fans and electric multi-cookers.
The assessed value of the larger haul was P8.7 million, according to the DTI.
The government agency said that these seized products lacked the required Philippine Standard marks and import commodity clearance stickers.
This latest government raid follows a recent string of operations against sellers of uncertified products ranging from home appliances to construction materials.
In May, the DTI had a five-day enforcement operation in Samar and Leyte, preventing the sale of 314 noncompliant rolls of steel wires worth P600,000 that were being sold by nine shops.
