DTI tags glass products for mandated certification
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has added five glass products to the mandatory certification list of the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS), expanding the coverage of regulated goods to 113 products.
Under Memorandum Circular No. 26-01, Series of 2026, the newly covered products include flat glass, heat-strengthened and fully tempered flat glass, laminated safety glass, laminated glass and bent glass.
The DTI said technical regulations covering these products will take effect in April 2026, requiring manufacturers to secure Philippine Standard (PS) licenses before distributing their products in the local market.
However, enforcement against noncompliant products will begin 12 months later, in April 2027. This gives manufacturers and importers time to comply with the new requirements and complete the necessary certification process.
Latest data from the DTI show that 14 PS licenses have already been issued to local and foreign manufacturers of glass products.
Under the mandatory certification scheme, products must comply with applicable Philippine National Standards.
Locally made goods must carry a PS license mark. Imported products must secure an Import Commodity Clearance before they can be sold in the Philippine market.
The DTI said only products that have passed conformity assessments and testing procedures will be issued the required certifications.
This is part of the mandate of the BPS, the country’s national standards body. It develops and implements product standards and oversees certification for regulated items.
