Dyna Drug taps First Gen to power pharma warehouses
First Gen Corp. has signed a power supply agreement with Dyna Drug Corp., enabling the latter to run its major warehouse facilities on geothermal energy.
This is as part of its push to lower the pharmaceutical distributor’s carbon footprint and ensure stable operations.
Under the agreement, which took effect last Nov. 26, First Gen will directly supply at least 145 kilowatts (kW) of renewable energy to Dyna Drug’s logistics, storage and distribution facilities located in Pasig City and Quezon City.
The electricity will be sourced from the Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant in Sorsogon and Albay. The facility is owned and operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corp.
Dyna Drug said the shift to geothermal energy aligns with its long-term sustainability goals while supporting the sensitive requirements of its warehouse operations.
“Transitioning to more sustainable solutions for our operations and minimizing our environmental footprint is our bold vision with tangible actions to improve the ecosystem,” Dyna Drug president Jacinto Dy said.
Founded in 1915 as a grocery store, Dyna Drug later transitioned into pharmaceutical wholesaling. It has since become one of the pioneers in the sector.
The company currently distributes products to more than 3,000 retail drugstores nationwide. This makes reliability and round-the-clock power supply critical to its operations.
First Gen said geothermal power is particularly suited for warehouse facilities that require continuous electricity to ensure product integrity and operational efficiency.
