EM&G Agriventures to expand poultry operations
EM&G Agriventures Inc. plans to spend about P30 million to expand poultry farm operations in Zambales province, aimed at meeting the increasing demand for poultry.
EM&G Agriventures seeks to amend its existing environmental compliance certificate (ECC) covering its existing poultry farm in Cabangan town to boost production capacity.
“The proposed expansion is intended to improve operational efficiency, enhance competitiveness, and promote the long-term sustainability of the farm’s operations, while maintaining strict adherence to environmental management and regulatory requirements,” the company said in a report to the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
EM&G Agriventures is undertaking the expansion to effectively meet poultry demand, which has steadily increased over the years.
It noted that poultry is one of the most affordable, accessible, and widely consumed sources of protein among Filipino households.
“Through the planned increase in capacity, the company aims to meet growing consumer demand, contribute to the continued development of the poultry industry, and reaffirm its commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable agribusiness practices,” it added.
EM&G Agriventures noted that poultry production plays a crucial role in ensuring stable and reliable meat supply, stabilizing market prices and meeting the daily dietary requirements of consumers across various income groups.
The amended ECC, if approved, will increase its poultry production capacity to 120,000 birds from the current 115,000. It also involves the construction and operation of a piggery facility with a capacity of 47,600 pigs.
The development is targeted to be completed in six months, from securing permitting and clearances to operating the facility.
It will be implemented in sequential phases to ensure a systematic and well-coordinated development process, while complying with regulatory requirements and environmental standards.
The firm said the project, situated on 6.4447 hectares of land, will allow the efficient placement of poultry houses, ancillary facilities and environmental management structures, while adhering to zoning regulations and biosecurity requirements.
The EMB has scheduled the public scoping for the expanded poultry farm for Feb. 11, allowing the proponent to discuss the project’s overview and address issues and concerns about the proposed project.
