ERC asked to clear P512-M grid link for Negros park

Emmanuel John Abris

South Cleanergy Inc. (SCI) has asked the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to approve its plan to develop and operate a dedicated transmission facility. This is intended to connect its large-scale solar project in Negros Occidental to the Visayas grid.

The estimated cost of the dedicated facility is about P512.16 million. The amount covers substation-related works and the point-to-point transmission line.

SCI, a subsidiary of Aboitiz Renewables Inc., is seeking authorization to build a point-to-point limited transmission line for its Luna Solar Power Project.

The 239.56-megawatt-peak (MWp) project includes a 306-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system.

It will connect to the 230-kilovolt Cadiz substation of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

The company also asked the ERC to grant provisional authority or interim relief, allowing construction and connection works to proceed while the case is under review.

SCI said the dedicated facility is necessary to immediately test, commission and dispatch power from the Luna solar plant.

The transmission facility will be used exclusively by the power generation project. It will not serve other end-users or suppliers, as required under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act.

Based on the filing, the proposed interconnection involves a 4.95-kilometer double-circuit transmission line from the project site to the Cadiz substation.

SCI said this option was chosen over a longer connection to another substation about 35 kilometers away, which would have required higher construction costs.
