Three out of the top five commitments made by business leaders in the food and beverage (F&B) industry include reduction in plastic usage and wastage according to recent research.

According to a survey made by Swedish multinational food packaging Tetra Pak, which covered 346 interviews across 19 markets last year, such results fall in line with consumer sentiments observed in nearly 30 countries including the Philippines.

Results show that the top five commitments are reducing dependency on plastic, the reduction of plastic packaging demand in food delivery, the reduction of food waste in plants, the reduction of plastic packaging waste in the value chain, and logistics improvement across the value chain.

The same study also showed that 77 percent of respondents expressed willingness to accept cost-related trade-offs associated with the implementation of sustainable manufacturing and processing solutions.
