Fewer babies born in past 2 years–PSA

The total number of registered live births in 2024 dropped by 6.3 percent, marking the second consecutive year of decline, according to provisional data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Data show that 1,357,203 babies were born last year, down from 1,448,522 in 2023. In 2022, the number of births was recorded at 1,455,393.

The 2023 and 2024 figures failed to sustain the brief uptick in 2022, which marked the first increase in live births since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Of the previous year’s total, the Calabarzon region accounted for the highest number of births with 205,212 babies (15.1 percent), followed by the National Capital Region with 152,506 (11.2 percent).

Meanwhile, the Cordillera Administrative Region recorded the lowest with 23,598 births or 1.7 percent of the total in 2024.

The PSA also reported that 704,798 males and 652,405 females had been born in 2024, compared with 753,332 and 695,190, respectively, in the same period of the previous year.

These numbers are the initial count as of Aug. 31, 2025,and include Filipinos whose usual residence is abroad. They also include births of foreign nationals that occurred in the country.
