Filinvest sugar mill hits 1M MT milestone

After suffering from operational woes in the past, a sugar mill in Cotabato under the Gotianun-led Filinvest Group processed more than 1 million metric tons (MT) of sugarcane this milling season.

In a statement on Thursday, Filinvest said its subsidiary, Cotabato Sugar Central Co. Inc., exceeded its target output by 42 percent following long-term modernization efforts.

The company said the “record-setting performance” was caused by aggressive improvements in both equipment and processes.

Upgrades include mill rollers and online instrumentation for real-time monitoring of key performance indicators.

It also implemented operational audits and targeted interventions to maximize output and reduce factory downtime.

“Reducing factory downtime played a key role in restoring planter confidence. It allowed us to strengthen relationships with our partners and improve overall plant efficiency,” Cotabato Sugar president and CEO Juan Eugenio Roxas said.

Roxas said the milestone goes beyond just a number, adding, “It’s a symbol of perseverance, transformation and teamwork. It affirms our drive for operational excellence and long-term sustainability.”

Filinvest, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, said it continues to pour investments into sustainable and regionally inclusive ventures to make Cotabato Sugar a catalyst in promoting rural development in Mindanao.
