First Gen booked to energize Cebu’s biggest amusement park

Lopez-led First Gen Corp. inked a power supply deal with Belmont Group to supply renewable energy for the latter’s theme park in Talisay, Cebu.
Belmont Group’s Anjo World Theme Park and First Gen last Thursday signed the agreement, which entails the provision of 750 kilowatts of electricity from a geothermal facility.
Aside from the theme park, supply from First Gen would also power retail stores and dining spaces, including areas designed for conferences and events.
Belmont Group has businesses in amusement, hospitality, retail and real estate.
Chester Lim, president of Anjo World and Belmont One, said the deal would not only lead to lower electricity bills but also lessen the group’s environmental impact.
“Since January 2016, we have been actively pursuing renewable energy initiatives and exploring ways to increase our reliance on stable, sustainable power sources,” Lim said in a statement.
First Gen also said it would deploy an energy monitoring system to enable Belmont Group to remotely monitor its electricity consumption.
“Theme parks consume a significant amount of power, not to mention the environmental impact of its operations. But they also contribute significantly to the local economy,” said Arlene Sy, head of power sales and marketing at First Gen.
“Through our partnership with Belmont One, we are helping the Anjo World Theme Park shift to cleaner electricity,” Sy said.
Earlier this month, First Gen was tapped to supply clean energy to industrial printing company Precision Crestec Inc.
Currently, the listed energy producer is operating 28 power plants ranging from solar, wind, hydro and geothermal that have the capacity to generate at up to 1,651 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
It also has a network of four gas-fired power plants in Batangas—the San Lorenzo, San Gabriel, Santa Rita and Avion gas plants. These facilities have an additional capacity of 2,017 MW.
