Globe data center in Fairview to open next year

The data center arm of Globe Telecom Inc. is on track to open the first phase of the 124-megawatt (MW) data hub in Fairview, Quezon City by the second quarter of next year.

ST Telemedia Global Data Centers (STT GDC) Philippines says they are keen on meeting the project timelines amid the growing need for facilities that store critical servers and IT networks.

“Last year, we projected that STT Fairview would be ready in the first part of 2025, and we are on schedule to deliver the initial capacity by second quarter 2025,” STT GDC Philippines president and CEO Carlo Malana says.

STT Fairview 1 has about 28 MW in capacity. In total, the company estimates a spending of $1 billion for the facility sprawling over 83,000 square-meters (sq m) of gross floor area across four buildings.

Apart from this, the company also broke ground for its $78-million data center in Cavite last year, with the target opening by mid-2025. The 6-MW hub is a two-story building with a gross floor area of over 4,500 sq m.

Demand for data centers has increased amid the trend among enterprises shifting their operations to cloud-based platforms to enable hybrid work setup. Cloud technology enables employees of these enterprises to access files and other crucial applications digitally anywhere but this also demands more data storage.

“Our designs are built around the current and future requirements of hyperscalers, and our ability to deliver on our commitments is underpinned by the ongoing development of local technical talent,” Malana said.
