Laptop sales seen to double with back-to-school season
Sales of laptops in the Philippines are expected to surge with approaching back-to-school season in September, with the local unit of international consumer finance provider Home Credit expecting purchase volume to double to 1,200 units daily.
In a statement, Home Credit Philippines (HCPH) said it was projecting a significant increase based on the peak number of laptops sold during the same month last year.
“With students and professionals increasingly relying on laptops for online classes, research and other academic activities, the demand for reliable, high-performance devices is at an all-time high,” the company said.
The HCPH said its recent sales report had shown a consistent growth in technology product demand, citing a trend driven by the ongoing digital learning revolution that has reshaped education in the Philippines.
The company has an online shop that showcases a selection of electronic products from laptops to mobile phones, to washing machines and televisions.
In 2023, the company sold P5.3 billion worth of laptops, marking a 12.5 percent year-over-year increase compared with the P4.7 billion worth of laptops it recorded in the previous year.
On average, the company said it had sold nearly 450 laptops daily in 2023, adding this was an indication of a strong market demand driven by the growing adoption of digital learning solutions.
“Over the past two years, we’ve seen a notable increase in laptop sales from July through September,” HCPH chief marketing officer Sheila Paul said.
Anticipating a similar trend this year, HCPH said it has mobilized a campaign with its partners to offer laptops, smartphones and other gadgets essential for students’ education.
The company also recently launched its promotional campaign called the “Sulit-Skwela deals,” designed to simplify the process of upgrading to the latest gadgets.
“As digital learning continues to evolve, the intersection of technology and education will only become more prominent. Gadgets, especially laptops, will remain at the forefront of this evolution, supporting diverse learning methods and enhancing educational outcomes,” said Paul.
Last year, HCPH hit 10.4 million customers and a transaction volume of P295.7 billion.
