Launched: 2024 Honda City Hatchback safer than ever with Honda SENSING

Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) debuted the updated 2024 Honda City Hatchback on Friday at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City, now with life-saving safety features available as standard.

This follows the path charted last year by its four-door sibling, the Honda City, which received the Honda SENSING across all variants – making it the first-ever subcompact sedan sold in the Philippines to have active-safety features in all its models.

As with all other Honda SENSING models, the City Hatchback gets Lead Car Departure Notification, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keep Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning and Auto High Beam, as well as front, side and curtain airbags.

HCPI said all these initiatives are part of the Japanese carmaker’s efforts to have a collision-free society by 2050, thus eliminating not only injuries and fatalities, but also costly crash repairs.

Revamped exterior, interior

Only one variant, the City Hatchback RS, is available.

It gets a revised body kit that includes a new front bumper and grill, flanked by standard LED headlights. The hatch also sports 16-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels painted in Berlina Black, along with bright-red RS badges and gloss-black trim.

Inside, the City Hatchback RS gets full leather upholstery, a new 4.2-inch digital gauge cluster and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a Walk Away Auto Door Lock function that locks the car when the remote is a certain distance away.

Under the hood, the City Hatchback retains its 1.5-liter, twin-cam, 16-valve inline-4 gasoline engine producing 119 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque. This is mated to a continuously variable transmission.

Exclusive color

The 2024 Honda City Hatchback RS is now on sale at HCPI dealers for P1,189,000 and comes in five colors, including Ignite Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Gray Metallic, and Brilliant Sporty Blue Metallic.

The all-new Sonic Gray Pearl is only available on the City Hatchback, which will be on display with other Honda Cars models at the 9th Avenue Bonifacio High Street Activity Center until Sunday. Also available onsite is a Collision Mitigation Braking System test ride from Saturday to Sunday.

Honda Cars’ latest hatch goes directly against the recently launched MG3 Hybrid hatchback, which is priced at P1,088,888. This also comes with active-safety features and 1.5-liter hybrid-electric powertrain producing 187 horsepower and 250 Newton-meters of torque.

Given that nine out of 10 subcompact hatchbacks sold last year were City Hatchbacks, can this updated model keep up its stellar sales figures?
