In a fusion of tradition and merriment, the Batangas provincial capitol marked the beginning of a season filled with the timeless magic of Christmas, with the “Paskong Batangueño sa Kapitolyo 2023.”
On Nov. 25, 2023, the Regina R. Mandanas Memorial DREAM Zone in the Capitol Compound saw the opening of the “Pailaw,” a radiant Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony that transformed the capitol into a bright spectacle to the delight of the thousands of attendees.
The “Pailaw” has been a symbol of hope and celebration in the province, bringing a sense of joy, and setting the stage for a month-long celebration of Christmas in the province. More than the beautiful lights, the event is a celebration of love, family, and cherished traditions that make the holiday season truly special, uniting the people of Batangas in happiness.
The heart of the festivities is the grand Christmas tree, standing tall and proud, casting its warm glow on Batangueños’ smiling faces.
Adding to the allure of the event is the poignant highlight of the Belen—an artful representation of the Nativity scene featuring the baby Jesus in the manger, accompanied by Mary and Joseph. This visual feast reminds attendees of the profound meaning of Christmas, inviting reflection on the spiritual essence of the season amidst the festive revelry.
With the capitol’s facade decked in spectacular lights, the night sky erupted in an amazing fireworks show capping a magical, dazzling evening.
Governor Dodo Mandanas stood alongside Vice Governor Mark Leviste, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Members, and his Batangas constituents, embodying the unity and camaraderie that define the spirit of Christmas in Batangas.
“This is our gift to the people of Batangas—a celebration that offers an extraordinary experience for our community,” he said. Emphasizing the true essence of the season, he encouraged attendees to cherish the meaning of Christmas—the birth of Jesus, the embrace of family, and the spirit of love.
The event also featured musical performances by talented local artists, adding a melodic backdrop to the upbeat atmosphere. Attendees reveled in the artistic flair of the decorations, with each corner providing a picturesque backdrop for capturing joyful moments and sharing them on social media.
The lights would be turned on every night for the entire duration of the season. Best of all, there is no entrance fee, so people can simply partake in the holiday cheer to their hearts’ content.
Beyond the radiant decorations, the day was also a culmination of the Provincial Children’s Month celebration. The grounds echoed with the laughter and excitement of children as they participated in a lively program and engaging parlor games. The province dedicated a special segment of the event to celebrating the joyous spirit of childhood, making the occasion not only visually enchanting but deeply meaningful for families and the community at large.
Mandanas, in his address, encapsulated the essence of the event. He said: “The ‘Paskong Batangueño sa Kapitolyo’ is a celebration of light, hope, and the joy that comes from being together as one community.”
