Megawide inks lease for P1.19-B Baguio terminal deal
Megawide Construction Corp. has signed a lease deal with the Baguio City local government to develop and operate the P1.186-billion Baguio City Integrated Terminal (BCIT) project.
The firm, led by tycoon Edgar Saavedra, said on Thursday that it signed the lease agreement last Jan. 21. It formalized the award that Megawide received from the Office of the City Mayor of Baguio on Oct. 17, 2025.
The notice of award confirmed Megawide’s selection as the private-sector proponent for the BCIT project. This is subject to compliance with the conditions of the award.
The BCIT project has an estimated total cost of P1.186 billion. It will involve the development, construction, implementation and operation of an integrated transport terminal in the city.
Megawide said the project will also include a mixed commercial development within the leased premises.
The lease period will not extend beyond either the 40th anniversary of the construction start date or the expiration of the applicable usufruct arrangement—whichever comes first.
Megawide said the execution of the lease agreement marks a key milestone in the implementation of the BCIT project.
This enables the company to proceed with the next phases of development following the earlier award.
The agreement covers the full scope of works, from construction to long-term operations of the integrated terminal and its related commercial components.
Megawide initially put forward the proposal to build the BCIT in 2019. The facility will rise along Marcos Highway.
The intermodal terminal is intended to consolidate all transport services that operate along the main corridor that links Baguio City to various areas across Luzon.
Envisioned as Baguio’s counterpart to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), BCIT is expected to begin operations in 2027.
It is projected to handle up to 400 buses and about 25,000 commuters daily across seven southbound routes. These include La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila and Cavite.
Megawide also served as the private partner behind PITX, a major transportation hub in Metro Manila that started operations in 2018.
