Megawide to construct 100,000 homes in 5 years
Megawide Construction Corp. has set an ambitious goal to build 100,000 housing units over the next five years.
Megawide is ramping up its participation in the government’s flagship housing initiative, to help address the country’s massive housing backlog.
This will happen through the expanded Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.
The company said the planned rollout will be supported by the expansion of its precast facility. This is intended to boost production capacity and ensure faster and more consistent delivery of housing projects.
About half of the targeted buildout is expected to be launched within the next three years, Megawide chair and CEO Edgar Saavedra said.
“Our company will be expanding another facility bigger and more sophisticated to support our commitment in delivering the 100,000 houses within five years,” he said.
“This will give common Filipino homebuyers the opportunity to own decent houses comparable to, or even better than, top developments in the country at an affordable price,” Saavedra said.
He added that these homes will also be paired with affordable financing under the Pag-Ibig Fund’s home loan program.
Megawide is deploying a prefabricated system similar to those used in countries like Germany and Japan. This enables faster and more efficient construction of residential units while maintaining quality standards.
The initiative builds on Megawide’s earlier partnership with Pag-Ibig Fund to deliver more than 7,000 housing units in Dasmariñas, Cavite, over the next two years under the expanded 4PH program.
President Marcos, who attended the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development’s anniversary celebration at Megawide’s Taytay precast facility, underscored the importance of modern construction technology in accelerating housing delivery.
“Our visit to this precast plant is a step toward building homes in our country using modern technology … and our goal is for every Filipino to have a safe, decent and affordable home,” the President said.
Saavedra added that Megawide’s precast technology could transform not only housing construction but also other infrastructure segments such as classrooms, transport terminals, railways and roads. This would help bridge the country’s infrastructure gaps.
