More biz names enlisted in Jan-Aug

New business name registrations and renewals filed at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) have reached nearly 823,000 so far this year, growing by at least 5.6 percent from a year ago with retail trade establishments making up the largest portion of the fillings.

Data released by the DTI on Saturday showed that 822, 915 registrations have been filed since January, higher than the 779,487 registrations tallied from January to August of 2023.

The fillings this year comprise of 727,260 new ones and 95,655 renewals, according to the government agency’s records.

More than half, or 505,280, of the applications were filed in the barangay level while those listed in the cities reached 178,171.

Businesses engaged in the retail trade business, most of which are small neighborhood shops or “sari-sari stores,” comprised the biggest segment with 462,528 registrations.

This is followed by the accommodation and food service category with 115,268, manufacturing with 46,170, and real estate with 41,324.

Other categories with large shares are other service activities with 30,516, administrative and support with 29,266, and transportation and storage with 28,030.

The Calabarzon region had the largest number of registrations at 155, 545.

Metro Manila came in second with 130,256, followed by Central Luzon with 108,487, Western Visayas with 55,997, and Central Visayas with 49,562.

Completing the other half in the top ten are Ilocos region with 46,482, Davao region with 33,181, Cagayan Valley with 31,978, Northern Mindanao with 30,525, and Bicol with 29,460.

Back in 2023, the DTI recorded a total of 984,330 business name registrations.

The government agency began the full implementation of its online business name registration back in August of that same year to streamline the listing processes.
