NGCP to complete 7 major projects in 2026

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), which operates the country’s electricity grid system, expects to finish seven transmission assets worth P18.5 billion this year.

NGCP said these projects include the P8.1-billion 500/230 kilovolt (kV) Substation Stage 1 or the Tuy-Dasmariñas 500kV transmission line component. This is intended to cater to a coal-fired power plant as well as boost the dispatch of generation capacity in Batangas province.

Supporting higher power demand in the Boracay Island and Caticlan area, NGCP is set to energize the P4.2-billion Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay 138kV transmission line.

Its P2.4-billion Tuguegarao-Lal-lo 230 kV transmission is also poised for completion. This would provide relief to the anticipated load growth in the northern part of Cagayan province.

NGCP is also beefing up grid reliability in Southern Negros with the P1.9-billion Amlan-Dumaguete 138kV transmission line.

The firm likewise seeks to address the overloading problem during outage through the completion of the P1.02-billion Stage 2 of the Visayas Substation Reliability project.

The P757.98-million Tacurong-Kalamansig 69kV transmission line and the relocation of steel poles along the Hermosa-Duhat 230kV transmission line, amounting to P123.84 million, are also expected to be completed within the year.

“We take our obligations under our franchise and concession agreement seriously. Despite continuing challenges in right-of-way and permitting, we remain committed to the work ahead, and are optimistic in completing these projects within the year,” NGCP assistant vice president Cynthia Alabanza said in a media briefing on Thursday.

Alabanza also sought support from the national and local agencies for the swift release of permits.

Their help “is vital to ensuring unhampered project implementation,” she said.
