PAL allows small dogs on all domestic flights

Philippine Airlines (PAL) has expanded its program allowing passengers to bring small dogs inside the aircraft cabin, making the option available across its more than 30 domestic routes.

In a statement on Thursday, the Lucio Tan-led flag carrier said its “FurPAL” program is now offered on all domestic flights starting Feb. 16, with a flat fee of P2,500 one-way.

“As the pioneer of pet air travel in the Philippines, PAL celebrates the unbreakable bond between people and their pets,” the airline said.

“This expansion helps more travelers enjoy seamless, safe and memorable journeys with their beloved furpals.”

PAL first rolled out the FurPAL program in November, initially covering select routes to Bohol, Boracay and Siargao.

Under the expanded policy, a passenger may bring one small dog onboard. The program is limited to dogs weighing up to 10 kilograms that are at least eight weeks old and fully weaned.

Each flight may accommodate a maximum of three small dogs in the cabin.

PAL requires several documents prior to travel, including a valid health certificate, updated vaccination records, veterinary certificate, signed PAL waiver and declaration form, and a shipping permit issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry.

The airline emphasized that pet sedation is strictly prohibited.

Passengers must select a flight offering the FurPAL option and add the service through the Travel Boost page before completing payment.

During the flight, pets must remain inside a carrier measuring no more than 17 by 11 by 9.5 inches.

Carriers must be equipped with pee pads and at least two ventilation panels, and must be stowed under the seat in front of the passenger at all times.

PAL said its aircraft are equipped with hospital-grade high-efficiency particulate air filters capable of eliminating up to 99.99 percent of airborne particles.

Apart from PAL, the Gokongwei-led low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific allows dogs in the cabin only if they are certified service animals or emotional support dogs, subject to requirements and clearance.
