The Philippines is projected to record growth in coconut oil export revenues this year due to rising coconut prices and higher demand, according to the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA).

Ma. Celia Raquepo, chief of the PCA Laboratory Services Division, said in a press briefing on Wednesday that coconut prices have increased in the global market, while there is a competition between vegetable oil and coconut oil.

“The demand for vegetable oil is currently high. Coconut oil followed, accounting for around 2 to 3 percent of the global market,” she said.

The Philippines is the leading coconut producer and the second-largest coconut exporting country in the world, next to Indonesia.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that coconut oil exports totaled $227.53 million in April. This means an increase of 14.3 percent from $199.06 million in the same period a year ago.

The statistics agency said that coconut oil exports totaled $2.22 billion in 2024, an increment of 88.3 percent from $1.18 billion last year.

Raquepo noted that coconut products are a major contributor to the Philippine exports, equivalent to around 35 to 37 percent of the total.
