PetroGreen energizes Isuzu plant with solar power
Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) has activated a 3-megawatt (MW) solar rooftop power facility for a manufacturing plant in Laguna province.
The project, considered the “largest” rooftop solar facility yet in Laguna Technopark, is for the Isuzu Autoparts Manufacturing Corp.’s (IAMC) facility in Biñan.
IAMC, a subsidiary of Japan’s Isuzu Motors Limited, is one of the leading automotive parts manufacturer in the market.
“This project is also an important milestone as the IAMC Laguna plant is only the third Isuzu manufacturing unit in Southeast Asia installed with its own-use rooftop solar facility,” said IAMC president Takashi Ishikawa.
According to PGEC president and chief executive F. G. Delfin, Jr., the solar power system could supply 20 percent of the facility’s electricity needs.
“PGEC looks forward to partnering with other locators and industries for a collective action toward energy security, lower power costs and better business environment for the country,” Delfin added.
The firm is the renewable energy arm of PetroEnergy Resources Corp., which has investments in renewable energy, power generation and upstream oil exploration.
It has investments in the 32-MW Maibarara Geothermal Power Project in Batangas, the 50-MW Nabas Wind Power Project in Aklan and the 70-MW Tarlac Solar Power Project in Tarlac.
In June, PGEC also said BuhaWind Energy Philippines—its joint venture with Copenhagen Energy of Denmark—had obtained the predevelopment environmental compliance certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for its 2-gigawatt Northern Luzon offshore wind farm.
The Northern Luzon wind development is eyed to start commercial operations by mid-2030.
Two other projects of BuhaWind Energy received national significance certificates, namely: the 1,000-MW Northern Mindoro and the 1,000-MW East Panay projects.
