Petron delivers record profit of P15.6B

Lisbet K. Esmael

Petron Corp., the country’s only oil refiner led by billionaire Ramon Ang, saw its profit surge to a record level in 2025, ballooning to P15.6 billion.

Driven by robust volume growth in the Philippine market, coupled with its improved cost and capital management, the firm’s earnings spiked by 84 percent from P8.5 billion a year ago.

“Despite external challenges, we achieved growth across the business and emerged stronger in an unpredictable market,” said Ang, Petron president and CEO.

“Our historic performance in 2025 highlights the resilience of our strategy, which not only sustains our growth but also defies industry trends. We will continue to strengthen our supply chain, strategically expand our footprint and make a more meaningful contribution to nation-building as we continue to solidify our leadership position in the industry,” he added.

This was despite a 7-percent drop in its top line, reaching P810 billion against the P868 billion a year ago. The weaker revenue was blamed on lower international prices.

It said geopolitical tensions and policy changes had resulted in the Dubai crude falling 13 percent to $69 per barrel in 2025.

Meanwhile, Petron said total volumes in the Philippines and Malaysia stood at 113.4 million barrels, 3 percent up from 110 million barrels a year ago.

The firm said the volumes in Malaysia “remained steady,” while it maintained its lead in the Philippines even with increasing rivalry in the sector.

It likewise continued to rule the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) segment, cornering a 25.1-percent market share. Petron’s flagship brands under its LPG business include Petron Gasul and Fiesta Gas.
