PH slips to 75th spot in mobile data quality
The Philippines slipped four places to 75th in a global quarterly ranking for mobile network experience after local telecommunication players scored lower in internet delivery, according to a report by analytics firm Opensignal.
Overall, the country beat just Laos (92nd) and Myanmar (93rd) among its neighbors in the region, while barely moving closer to the likes of Singapore (10th) and Thailand (63rd).
Opensignal’s Global Network Excellence Index data showed South Korea topping the list as it had the best mobile network experience after showing dominance in 4G/5G availability and 5G download speed. Finland, Denmark, Norway and Netherlands rounded up the top five.
The analytics firm noted the Philippines fell by two places to 87th in the “excellent consistent quality” category in the first quarter.
The Philippines scored 51.3 percent in this pillar, which was lower by 2.7 percentage points compared with a review from the previous year.
“This metric evaluates how consistently networks support demanding applications such as video streaming, video calls and gaming, ensuring a seamless user experience,” Opensignal explained.
In terms of 4G/5G availability, the Philippines ranked 59th, one level down.

The country sat at the 58th spot from 56th previously for 5G download speed, which slowed down by 9.3 megabits per second (Mbps).
The Philippines jumped higher by six spots to 90th for 4G download speed, which was faster by 1.5 Mbps.
Opensignal said declining 5G download speeds and improving 4G speeds are trends that have been observed also in other markets.
“This shift highlights changes in how networks are being optimized—with many operators rebalancing resources between coverage and performance,” it explained.
“Going forward, as more users shift to 5G, managing congestion and sustaining consistent quality will remain a central challenge for operators aiming to stay competitive,” Opensignal said.
Local players have been responding to this trend by boosting infrastructure, offering 5G-enabled devices at a lower price point and introducing new subscription services.
The firm analyzed mobile network data from 134 countries across seven regions.
