PLDT enables 3D ‘holographic’ medical tech

The corporate arm of PLDT Inc. is set to introduce a new medical technology innovation that uses Mixed Reality (MR) to empower medical practitioners in the Philippines.

In a partnership with German-based medical technology firm apoQlar, PLDT Enterprise aims to pioneer the adoption of MR and 5G-powered health-care innovations.

Powered by PLDT’s enterprise-grade connectivity, apoQlar’s HoloMedicine platform seeks to introduce immersive and data-driven medical applications to hospitals and medical training institutions.

This collaboration is seen to allow the country to benefit from apoQlar’s European Conformity-certified and Food and Drug Authority-registered MR software, supported by PLDT’s 5G and cloud infrastructure.

The platform offered by apoQlar is described as a cutting-edge MR platform that transforms medical imaging, clinical collaboration and education through 3D holographic visualization.

The new technology is touted to “equip Filipino medical professionals with immersive visualization tools that enhance medical training, strengthen diagnostics and support more precise surgical planning.”

This is seen to reduce training time by up to 30 percent and improve accuracy in surgical planning through real-time 3D visualization, initially for more than 1,000 doctors, surgeons and medical professionals across the Metro Pacific Hospital network.

The integration of 5G and cloud technologies is seen to boost the ability of hospitals to achieve up to 25-percent improvement in procedural efficiency. It is seen to result in faster turnaround times in critical medical departments such as surgery and diagnostics.

“By combining PLDT’s connectivity solutions and apoQlar’s world-class HoloMedicine technology, we are opening new frontiers in how medical professionals learn, collaborate and deliver care,” said Blums Pineda, senior vice president and head of enterprise business group at PLDT and Smart.

“Through HoloMedicine and PLDT’s 5G infrastructure, we can enhance the way doctors visualize data, plan surgeries, and train for complex procedures – ultimately improving patient outcomes and advancing digital health care in the region,” apoQlar head of Asia Pacific Rajeshwari Kanesin said.
