Siquijor taps Vivant Energy for 15-year supply deal
Vivant Corp. said its power subsidiary, Vivant Energy Corp., has secured a 15-year supply deal intended to address an electricity shortage in Siquijor province.
In a disclosure on Friday, the Cebu-based parent company said Vivant Energy entered into a power supply agreement (PSA) with the Province of Siquijor Electric Cooperative (Prosielco), following a successful competitive selection process.
The contract covers a guaranteed dependable capacity ranging from 5 megawatts (MW) to 11 MW.
Under the agreement, Vivant Energy will supply electricity from its diesel-fed power plant located in Barangay Bogo, Maria.
The contracted capacity is intended to serve the energy requirements of the island’s towns, including Larena, Lazi, Maria, San Juan, Enrique Villanueva and Siquijor.
The company said the PSA was signed last Dec. 30 and marks a key development for the island. Siquijor has faced persistent power supply issues in recent years.
Last June, Siquijor was placed under a state of calamity after prolonged outages. Residents and businesses experienced blackouts lasting up to 20 hours a day at the height of the crisis.
The power shortage has weighed heavily on the local economy, particularly the tourism sector. The latter is a major growth driver for the province.
Siquijor was reported to have led the Negros Island Region in terms of gross domestic product growth in 2024.
The region’s economy grew by 7.9 percent to P13.78 billion from P12.77 billion a year earlier. This underscored the growing demand for reliable electricity.
The company did not provide financial details of the PSA. But it emphasized that the agreement supports its broader strategy of investing in underserved and off-grid areas through Vivant Energy.
The parent firm has interests across the energy value chain, including power generation, distribution and retail electricity supply.
Vivant Energy operates projects across the archipelago, focusing on delivering power solutions to communities with limited access to stable electricity.
