SM firms up focus on reporting, community programs
The SM Group is putting greater emphasis on corporate reporting and community programs as its businesses seek to strengthen engagement with investors and the communities they serve.
SM Investments Corp. (SMIC), the conglomerate’s parent company, highlighted its integrated and sustainability reporting alongside programs covering environmental initiatives, accessibility, arts and community engagement.
“Clear reporting gives investors and other stakeholders a better view of how we make decisions, manage the business and plan for the long term,” SMIC president and CEO Frederic DyBuncio said.
The initiatives recently earned the group 12 recognitions at the 2026 International Business Awards, four of which went to SMIC and eight to SM Supermalls.
SMIC’s 2025 Integrated Report received Gold Stevies under the conglomerates (large) and Best Annual Report (publicly held corporations) categories.
Its 2025 sustainability report, meanwhile, received bronze for Best Sustainability Report.
The SM Sustainability School also secured bronze under Sustainability Initiative of the Year in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
SM Supermalls’ initiatives covered areas ranging from environmental protection and inclusivity to arts and consumer engagement.
The Philippine International Pyromusical Competition received Gold for Brand Experience of the Year (consumer), while the Find Your SM campaign won silver in the same category.
The SM Green Movement received silver for achievement in corporate social responsibility. SM Cares Coastal Cleanup and SM Cares: A Mall for All likewise received silver awards for their environmental and diversity and inclusion initiatives, respectively.
Other recognized programs included the SM Cares book nook, empowering communities campaign and SM Mindanao Art.
The book nook provides spaces in malls where visitors can read and share books, while SM Mindanao art gives artists from the region a wider platform for their work.
More than 300 business professionals participated in two months of judging for the International Business Awards, with winners determined based on average scores. The awards program is now in its 23rd year.
