SM Prime expands logistics footprint for Shopee partners

SM Prime Holdings Inc. is expanding its logistics footprint for Shopee partners SPX Express (SPX), turning over a new 40,000-square-meter facility in Pasig City as e-commerce demand drives the need for faster distribution.

SM Warehouses, a unit of the Sy-led property giant, said on Thursday the new facility would serve SPX Express and Scommerce Philippines Inc., bringing its combined logistics space for the two companies to more than 126,000 square meters.

The Pasig City site will operate as an urban distribution hub, bringing inventory closer to customers across Metro Manila.

Designed for high-volume operations, the facility is expected to increase processing capacity and shorten last-mile delivery times.

The expansion builds on SPX’s multi-year lease for about 86,000 square meters at SM Prime’s 130,000-square-meter Silangan Warehouse complex in Laguna.

Scommerce, meanwhile, provides warehousing and fulfillment solutions to sellers and businesses on the Shopee platform.

The Pasig City and Laguna facilities will serve different parts of SPX’s distribution network.

While the Pasig City hub will cater more closely to Metro Manila, the larger Silangan facility handles regional fulfillment and sorting operations.

The latter also connects Southern Luzon to SPX’s nationwide distribution network.

Martin Yu, head of SPX Express, said the new Mega First Mile hub in Pasig City would allow the company to process shipments faster and cut delivery times by moving operations closer to Metro Manila customers.

“As e-commerce evolves, our logistics infrastructure must grow with it,” Yu said.

Alexis Ortiga, business unit head of SM Prime’s commercial properties group, said the partnership with SPX and Scommerce reflects the company’s push to provide well-located and adaptable spaces for businesses and local micro, small and medium enterprises.

SM Warehouses offers large-scale logistics and distribution spaces across the country, including ready-to-move-in buildings, greenfield spaces and custom build-to-suit facilities. Its properties range from 5,000 to more than 120,000 square meters.
