US defense supplier eyes expansion in Apeco

Logan Kal-El M. Zapanta

A United States-based defense supply chain company is looking to expand its operations to the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone (Apeco), which the government has identified as a potential national defense hub.

In a statement over the weekend, Apeco said Virginia-based company Anglicotech LLC has reaffirmed its interest in investing in the ecozone, adding to the firm’s existing operations in Subic.

Anglicotech supplies equipment to both the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States Department of Defense. The firm is particularly engaged in areas related to foreign military sales, logistics and C5ISR. The latter refers to command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.

Apeco president and CEO Gil Taway IV met with Anglicotech CEO David Cooper on Dec. 19. The American firm expressed “confidence in Apeco as a strategic location that supports national security, logistics, and related services.”

Apeco said discussions also covered Anglicotech’s plan to pursue a multiphase investment approach.

“Our engagement with Anglicotech reflects a shared understanding that defense-related investments require stability, clarity of policy, a long-term view and good governance. We are strengthening this under Apeco’s current reforms,” Taway said.

Last August, Cooper and Anglicotech country manager in the Philippines, Edmund Rustia, inspected the Apeco site in Casiguran, Aurora.

At a forum held the same month, Cooper cited Apeco’s location and infrastructure as factors that could support both defense and commercial activities.
