Yuchengco group switches on P1.8-B Isabela solar park
Yuchengco-led Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) is boosting its solar capacity anew with the activation of its P1.8-billion solar plant in Isabela.
Through its subsidiary, BKS Green Energy Corp., the company said on Wednesday that the 40-megawatt Limbauan Solar Power Plant in San Pablo town has begun exporting electricity to the grid.
According to RGEC, the electricity generated from the facility is enough to energize around 33,000 households.
RGEC is a joint venture between Japan-based Taisei Corp. and Yuchengo affiliate PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC).
“The current Middle East conflict highlights once more the absolute necessity of securing our country’s energy supply and reducing our dependence on imported energy sources,” PGEC president and CEO F.G. Delfin, Jr. said in a statement.
“The switch-on of this solar power facility, among the first utility-scale solar plants in Isabela province, is thus very timely,” Delfin added.
Marissa Cerezo, director of the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Management Bureau, was at the switch-on ceremony.
Cerezo said Energy Secretary Sharon Garin ordered that all renewable energy projects poised for completion this year must be finished “in advance to ensure that our economy continues to grow without being at the mercy of global crises.”
Garin said earlier that the Middle East conflict could result in about a 16-percent increase in electricity rates.
Electricity spot prices alone may see as much as P4 per kilowatt-hour increase next month.
But some industry players said that if all green energy auction projects materialized, the Philippines would have more capacity to cushion the impact on prices.
